Nine Favorite Things | halfbakedharvest.com

From Austin straight to Miami… and somehow, life looks completely different than it did just a couple of months ago.

After Italy, I headed to Austin, where I spent the past month working nonstop on a project I’m so excited to share (more on that soon!). The plan after that was simple—just one week in Miami over Easter with my family.

But as it turns out, one week has turned into something much longer.

We’ve decided to stay in Miami for the spring and summer. We rented a home with a separate guest house—the house for the family, and the guest house for me—and we’re settling into this new, very unexpected chapter.

I truly never would have predicted this, even a month ago. But when I thought about heading back to the cold mountain town for spring and summer, I realized I needed something different. A change of environment, a little more warmth, a reset of sorts.

It also happens to be perfect timing, since our home in Colorado is currently a full construction zone while we renovate. I needed somewhere else to land anyway… so why not somewhere sunny?

So, surprise—Miami Beach for now, and then a good amount of travel this fall.

It’s exciting, but also overwhelming, chaotic, and if I’m being honest, a little scary too.

I’ve lived with anxiety for as long as I can remember. As a kid, it showed up around school and being away from my mom. Over the years, it’s just been something I’ve learned to manage. I’ve found tools that help, but it’s still something I work through daily. If you know, you know—it doesn’t just disappear.

So with all this unpredictability, it’s definitely been a challenge. But I also know I wasn’t feeling my best at home in the cold, and this change—while hard—is something I needed.

Because everything has been so last-minute, getting settled hasn’t been easy. We’re building out the kitchen from scratch so I can keep creating recipes, but it’s taking time. And honestly, that’s been the hardest part.

For the last 13+ years, what my mom and I have been building has meant showing up consistently, sharing recipes daily, and connecting with all of you. And lately, that’s looked a little different. It’s something I’ve stressed over more than I can explain, and I truly want to say thank you for your patience and kindness.

We do have recipes coming, and we’re getting there. It just might take a couple of weeks to find our rhythm again.

This season has been a lot—finishing up a big two-year project while navigating all of this change—but I’m doing my best to lean into it. To trust that growth comes from the uncomfortable moments, even when they feel messy.

Change is hard, but it also opens the door to something new, something better, something more aligned.

And right now, that’s what I’m choosing to focus on.

I’m really excited to share more from this time in Miami, along with everything that’s ahead this year. It means a lot to be able to show up here and share honestly with you—it truly does feel like catching up with friends.

I hope wherever you are, you have something you’re excited about too—something that challenges you, pushes you, and brings you joy.

Now onto a few favorites for the week. Happy Sunday!

    1. Hey Barb,
Yes, planning to share it all down the road:) Thanks for reading today!

      Have a great Sunday!

  3. Are you planning on renting in Florida for the long term? Since your rental appears to be unfurnished my guess is you’re going to put some roots down there? I lived in Miami for a few years and girl get ready for the most humidity you have ever felt!

    1. Hey Luis,
Thanks for your comment today. We are just trying it out for now, it’s not for forever:)

I’m excited to be here though! Happy Sunday!

  4. Living somewhere else will be so good for you!
Are you ever going to share the studio renovation? If your home is being renovated, why did your parents have to relocate, too?

    1. Thanks for reading today, Reese! Yes, I plan to share the studio renovation, I promise:)

My parents were ready for a little warm weather and to escape the renovations as well.

      Enjoy your Sunday!

  5. Bravo on your Miami adventure! Wishing you fun and sun while you meander this detour. What a nice opportunity for a reset. Cheers to the family!

    1. Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging message today, Diane!

I appreciate you reading today and every Sunday! Thanks for your thoughtful message and well wishes:)

I’m excited to try something new and can’t wait to share new recipes with you soon!

  7. Sounds exciting but a lot of changes! I’m curious about logistics! Did you not have to go back home to get more of your belongings before such a longer/unexpected stay in Miami? How does all that work?

    1. Hey Elizabeth,
Thanks for taking the time to read. I didn’t go home, just using what I had with me:) If I need to do a little shopping while I’m here, I’m okay with that!

      Have a great Monday!

  8. Glad to hear you’re finally getting out of your comfort zone! Personally, I’d focus on updating old recipes rather than worrying about making new ones. You have over 4,000 recipes on your site, there’s plenty of content for people to work with! Enjoy the sunshine and try to RELAX!

  9. Happy Sunday Tieghan – thank you for another happy Sunday morning read. Glad to hear you and your Mom are going to brainstorm more recipes. I’m looking for creative and tasty ways to incorporate lentils, beans and veggies given the high price of meat these days. The family loves meat, but some tasty non-meat meals ideas would be welcome 🤗

Enjoy Miami for the next while…I bet it is wonderful soaking up the sun and warmth.

Thank you for the link with parenting tips…I picked up a few. Your mom probably has a few tips she could share too…maybe in your Mother’s Day post.

    1. Hey Tracy,
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and comment today. I will definitely try to add some more recipes with lentils, beans, and veggies for you!

Miami has been amazing so far, nothing beats the warm sun in my opinion.

I thought the parenting tips article was interesting, glad you enjoyed! I can definitely try to have my mom share some of her best tips around Mother’s Day, great idea!

      Have the best Sunday!

  10. I find the ocean healing and centering. I applaud your bravery and vulnerability in sharing. Your food photography is magic.
    Be well,
    Deb

    1. Hi Deb,
Thanks for taking the time to read today. Totally agree with your comment about the ocean! Thanks for your kind thoughts.

      Have a great Sunday!

  11. Wow that’s a big change and a lot for you! What does it mean when you say you’re building out the kitchen from scratch? Your landlord is allowing you to renovate his/her guest house to your liking and expand it etc?

    1. Hi Terrie,
Thanks for reading today! No, we are not renovating, just getting kitchen items to cook and bake with. Everyday essentials, basically stocking the kitchen:)

      Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thanks a bunch, Lisa! Yes, I would love to do an event or two while here in Miami, that would be so fun!

      Enjoy your Sunday!

  12. Fun about FL! I’m surprised though since Colorado is beautiful in spring & summer, I wouldn’t consider it cold. 🙂 Will your house be done this fall then? Enjoy the sun!

    1. Thanks for reading today, Sara!

While it is warmer during the spring/summer in Colorado, I’m in the mountains, so nothing quite like the Florida heat:)

Yes, hoping to share more on the renovations soon!

  13. Happy for you and wishing you all the best!! Take all the time you need to get settled and into your new groove… we have lots of your wonderful recipes to refer to as well as your amazing cookbooks. 🥰😍😘❤️

    1. Hey Kim,
Thanks a lot for reading today and your kind message:) I’m thankful for your support and appreciate you making so many recipes!

Hope you are having a great start to your Sunday!
